ARCUS

FOR STRING QUARTET AND ELECTRONIC MUSIC

ARCUS is based on the sound phenomenon of a bowed string. Comparable to the view through a microscope, the acoustic aspects of this sound production are highlighted and musically thematized. The electroacoustic feed based on the sounds of a viola makes this aspect of sound production the focus of the composition through the proximity of microphoning and various primarily filter-technical procedures and transpositions. The string quartet – also reproduced by microphones through loudspeakers – engages in  a musical dialogue with the electronic sounds.
