Journey’s end is a composition with language. All sounds, structures and musical contents are based on a spoken sentence, which is introduced with different expressions four times at the beginning of the piece. The sentence “Sie haben die Station Solaris erreicht, die Landung ist beendet” (“You have reached the space station Solaris, the landing is completed”) originates from a text which I recorded in Paris for a the chamber opera “Solaris” based on a novel of Stanislaw Lem. The variability of the recorded female voice inspired me to compose an electroacoustic piece entirely comprised of this sound resource. The combination of the contents of the sentence and the principle of musical transition was very inviting.
